Notable Celebrations

We offer a variety of additional activities throughout the year that allows parents and family members to join in celebrating the children in our school and engaging with the greater school community.

 

Notable occasions:

  • Family Social - getting to know each other. All family member are invited to join in the family social as a way of meeting fellow class mates and parents. 

  • PJ’s and Pancake Day - each year the children get to come to school in their PJ's and Sophie treats them with one of her legendary pancakes!

  • Special Person / Grandparents Day - one of the biggest days in our school calendar! We treat our nearest and dearest to a morning of song and crafts, topped off with tea and treats. 

  • School Concert- the school concert is designed to showcase all the children that attend Explore + Discover

  • Outing to Firestation (honeybee class age 3 – 6 year olds) 

  • Sports Day- the sports day is designed to encourage children to participate in sports. It is a fun day for both children and parents to bond.

  • Graduation Ceremony - the graduation ceremony is a right of passage for every child leaving Explore + Discover at the end of each year.

  • Mother’s Day – 12th May

  • Africa Day Celebrations – 25 May

  • World Environment Day – 5th June 

  • Father’s Day – 16th June 

  • Maria Montessori Birthday – 31st August

  • Spring Hats (Spring Equinox) – 22nd September 

 

Montessori birthday circle 

Birthdays are a special event for a Montessori child. Please confirm arrangements in advance with Sophie We encourage parents and family members to attend your child’s birthday celebration!

We celebrate the child's birthday with a special birthday circle where we walk through the timeline of the child’s life. Please could you bring in a poster photographs depicting special events or milestones; for example, the day they were born, a birthday party, etc. Up to 3 photographs per year of your child’s life will be sufficient to illustrate their timeline. 

  

Mystery Reader 

Parents (aunts, uncles, grandparents, family friends and child carers) are welcome to bring your child’s favourite book to read to the class. We value parents and family participation in school to build a strong link between home and school. Please book a date and time in advance with Sophie.
